Escaping the Funk: Fun and Simple Ways to Shift Your Vibe
Written July 19, 2024
We’ve all had our “ughh” moments, right? The ones where everything feels heavy, your energy’s low, and you’re just not in the mood. Trust me, I’ve been there more times than I can count. If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, you know I’ve wrestled with my fair share of funks and low vibes—what I affectionately call ‘ughh’ moments. And if you haven’t, well, now’s the perfect time to catch up (just kidding)—but odds are, if you’re reading this, you can totally relate to how it feels.
When I’m in a funk, it feels like everything’s off: I’m rigid, irritable, my inner critic is running wild, I can’t focus, and all I want is some alone time. Not fun, to say the least. But over the years, I’ve learned a thing or two about snapping out of those funks—and I’m excited to share what works for me.
As humans, we’re wired to conserve energy rather than exert it. That’s why activities like journaling or moving your body can feel nearly impossible when you’re in a low-vibe state. It’s not laziness—it’s biology. Understanding this shift in perspective helped me become much more compassionate with myself when I’m stuck in those dense energy states.
So, when you’re feeling stuck in that funk, start small. Even the tiniest shift can make a big difference.
Here are my go-to mood-lifters — ranging from super chill to more active.
Take what feels right, leave the rest, and most importantly, honor your energy.
Rest: Seriously. Let yourself actually rest without guilt (because that’s not real rest!). It’s not about doing nothing—it’s about recalibrating your mind, body, and spirit. Taking the time to pause and recharge helps restore balance and gives you the energy to shift out of low-vibe states.
Blast Music: Music has the power to shift your energy. Curate a feel-good playlist to turn to whenever you’re feeling low and watch your mood transform.
Cuddle with Your Dog (or any pet): Because, come on—does anything feel better than puppy snuggles? The physical touch triggers oxytocin, boosting happiness and reducing stress, while their unconditional companionship reminds you that you’re loved.
Take a Walk Outside: Fresh air and the beauty of nature can work wonders for shifting your perspective. Nature emits a vibrational frequency (the Schumann resonance at 7.83 Hz) that resonates with your brain, helping to calm your mind and shift your state.
Pamper Yourself: Take an everything shower, put on a face mask, and smother yourself in body oil. Self-care can be both fun and indulgent. When you take control and prioritize yourself, your brain and body will respond, boosting your mood and energy.
Read a Book: Get lost in a good read—whether it’s self-help or fiction. Escape your own thoughts, shift your perspective, and remember, you’re the main character of your own story.
Call a Friend: Sometimes you just need to vent, and talking to someone who gets it can make everything feel lighter.
Journal: Get those swirling thoughts down on paper and let your mind clear. Journaling helps release pent-up emotions, organize chaotic thoughts, and reset your mindset, making it easier to shift out of a funk and gain clarity.
Visualization: Close your eyes, put on some soothing music, and envision your highest self living her dream life. Feel the shift as you embody her energy. Want to dive deeper? I’ve created a free guide on visualization and manifestation—sign up below!
Yin Yoga: Gently move your body and tap into your feminine energy to deeply relax and process emotions with ease. It’s a soothing practice that helps you release tension and restore balance.
Breathwork: Deep breaths (or a little breath of fire) can totally shift your energy. Try it! Let your breath transmute lower energy into strength and ease. Intentional breathing resets and regulates your parasympathetic nervous system, bringing you back to balance.
Dance: Shake off the funk! A good dance session resets your nervous system—and feels amazing! Fun fact: animals shake off stress to reset their nervous systems, so why not do the same?
Kundalini Yoga: Move, chant, and breathe to awaken your inner alchemist and shift from low vibes to radiant energy. Stay tuned for short, accessible videos to help you tap into your Shakti energy (coming soon).
Lift Weights: Feel strong, powerful, and energized by lifting something heavy. Seriously, you’ve got this.
Most of these activities can be done solo or with a friend. Sometimes, all you need is a little human connection. Tune in to your body and ask what it needs right now—whether it’s solitude or company.
Trust your intuition—it knows what’s best.
